What is the Texas Finish Line Campaign?
The Texas Finish Line Campaign is a plan to make sure that every Texas child has affordable, comprehensive health insurance. The campaign is actively supported by the Children's Defense Fund of Texas, the Center for Public Policy Priorities and Texans Care For Children, in partnership with business, community, faith, and health care leaders from throughout the state.
Every Texan wins when our state's children can get the care they need, when they need it. Texas kids win when they are healthy and in school. Parents win because they miss fewer days of work caring for sick children, and taxpayers and businesses win when Texas' health care system provides cost-effective preventive care instead of costly emergency room care after untreated conditions become severe.
Healthy children are the building blocks for our communities to be productive and strong over the long term. Let's do what's right for Texas children, families, and taxpayers and cover all kids.
Texas has made great progress in insuring our kids-in fact, thanks to bipartisan support in the 2007 Texas legislature and support from our business community, families, advocates, and volunteers, 109,000 children have been newly enrolled since August 2007. 109,000that's more than the population of Midland. And another 50,000 to 100,000 more kids are expected to have health care by 2009. The goal of covering every Texas child is within reach, and we are working to get more kids covered every day.
